Here are my ATC's that I created for the Art History Swap - Dante Rossetti. He is a difficult artist to copy! I always strive to make my art look identical to the original when I do these types of swap. Of course I'm not using the same medium as the original artist so that does make a difference. Some of the other artists in the swap copy the paintings in their own style and do not strive for identical art. This is something I would like to try eventually, but I'm still trying to figure out what's my style? If you were to look at my artwork, would you be able to recognize mine?
Now that I compare these, I didn't bother with the background. Afterall, I am limited to a 2.5 x 3.5 inch canvas! So basically I'm just comparing the facial features. In the first one I think I needed more greens in the face. At least that is what it looks like to me in his painting. Even though I am using pencils rather than oil paints, I would still think my colors could be brighter. My artwork looks rather washed out. In the second portrait I think my skin color is toooo light. In the third portrait my hair color is actually brighter than the original and the mouth looks open and in a different position than the original. Actually, I really liked how the hair was rendered in my drawing, even if it doesn't look like the original.
Wow, I just clicked on your blog out of curiosity at IATC and what a great blog! Great art too I might add!
